Calcium - roles and regulation in pollen tubes

Profile

Dr. Christian Craddock is an associate professor of Horticultural Biology and Metabolomics Center, HIST, FAFU. He received his Ph.D degree in Molecular Cell Biology from the University of Warwick in 2007. He has extensive research expertise in plant physiology, biochemistry and molecular cell biology. He has an in depth knowledge of the secretory pathway, the use of plants to generate antibodies, lipid metabolism and pollen tube tip growth. His research interests involve studying the cell biology of pollen tubes. The goal of his research is to elucidate paradigms and design principles that govern rapid tip growth to generate elongated tubular cells. He work concurrently on three projects. His main aim is to detemine the candidate ligand/s responsible for binding to a protein receptor kinase at the pollen tube tip; this possible being responsible for the control of pollen tube tip growth. In addition he studies the role of calcium signaling and the structure of the cytoskeleton in pollen tubes.
